The Welsh Spitfire Museum on Bridge Street, Haverfordwest, welcomed David Melding (AM, CBE) through its doors on Friday, 7th February 2020, to showcase the work of the museum and their intended new public library.
David is a member of The Welsh National Assembly he was the Deputy Presiding Officer of the Fourth National Assembly between 2011 and 2016, he was born in Neath, where he attended Dwr-y-Felin Comprehensive School and then read Politics at the University of Wales, Cardiff, obtaining a BSc (Econ), followed by an MA in Government after further study in the United States.
The AM was given a tour of the museum’s exhibits by curator Ray Burgess, who explained the history of the Spitfire and told him about the efforts to catalogue the new library. More than 12,000 books have been donated by members of the public, on topics including the history of aviation from its origins to the present day, the history of the RAF, the first and second world wars, and politics.
In fact David has met Ray and the Welsh Spitfire previously, during April 2008, he welcomed the aircraft to Wales on behalf of the Welsh Assembly whilst the project was en route from its previous home in Oxford to Haverfordwest.
