Welcome to Haverfordwest

Haverfordwest, home to the Welsh Spitfire Museum

Haverfordwest is a charming and historic town in Pembrokeshire, serving as both the administrative center of the county and a hub for shopping, with a variety of shops located within the town and nearby retail parks.

The town center is defined by the Western Cleddau river flowing through it and the imposing castle that stands tall in its midst.

As the county town, Haverfordwest is well-connected, with bus services radiating throughout Pembrokeshire and a railway station providing further transportation options.

With roots dating back almost a thousand years, Haverfordwest enjoyed prominence during Elizabethan times as Wales’ second largest port, maintaining its status until the arrival of the railway in 1853.

The castle, erected around 1110, holds a significant place in Haverfordwest’s history. Its inner ward once housed the County Gaol, built during 1779-80, with the former prison governor’s house now serving as part of the museum.
